Sean Pressley is an American Photographer living and working in Brooklyn, New York, who uses documentary images chronicling his community, along with staged recreations of scenes from memory or imagination, to explore the intricacies and complex honesties in seemingly everyday moments, emotions, and routines.
According to Pressley, ” I’ve always lived by the notion that as an artist, specifically a black artist, it was my primary objective to communicate my experience through my work. An experience that tells the story of what I’ve been through and where I’ve been, what I find aesthetically pleasing and amusing, and how I see black people in my mind, in reality, and in my photographs. To paraphrase the great Arthur Jafa, I’m essentially speaking to black people through my images. Everyone else is invited to observe the conversation. “
